Minutes
of the meeting of 10-15-2007
A of the Board of Adjustment of Alexandria
Township was held on the 15th Day of October 2007 at the Alexandria
Township Conference Room, 610 Fillmore Street.
ROLL CALL: Members present were Louis Ross, Bryon
Alstead, Jim Casper, and Roger Thalman.
Supervisor Dahlheimer recussed himself since
he was the applicant. Also present were
Clerk Gregg Raisanen and Ben Oleson, Township Zoning Administrator. As said members formed a quorum and the
meeting was called to order by Clerk Raisanen at 6:30 PM.
Chairman Thalman recessed the
meeting and opened up the public hearing for consideration of a variance to
construct a dwelling within 1000 ft. of a feedlot. Mr. Dahlheimer reported that he has lived on
his property 35 years and currently has an offer to sell a portion of his
property to operate a cow milking operation and desires to be granted a
variance to build a home on another portion of his property within 1000 ft. of
the proposed milking operation. There
are two other residences located within 1000 feet of his farm so therefore a
variance would be needed. Mr. Dahlheimer
reported that the request was reasonable since he would be living in the
constructed home and is well aware of feedlot operations so there would be no
conflicts.
The public hearing was closed
at 7:00 PM.
Chairman Thalman reconvened the
meeting. Zoning Administrator Oleson
recommended denial of the variance since the applicant is not being deprived of
reasonable use of the property since there are other places to build and has
not demonstrated a hardship. Supervisor
Alstead reported that the applicant is creating the situation because of his
desire to sell. Supervisor Ross
commended the staff report however was not satisfied with the map included in
the application.
Ross, seconded by Alstead, made
a motion to deny the variance for Joel Dahlheimer, for construction of a
dwelling within 1000 feet of a feedlot.
Motion for: Alstead, Casper, Ross,
Thalman. Motion against: none. Motion carried.
